Broken

You dropped a dish, and with it all pretenses. You asked if I was leaving.

Kneeling in these shattered half-truths, I can’t lie. “I don’t know. Do you want me to?”

“No.”

Our mended hearts are fragile, and in each others’ hands.

  1. That is a powerful first line, Christine! It drew me in and the third line kept me there. Love the double meaning throughout. It’s a perfect metaphor; the delicacy of the dishes and of the relationship.

  2. Broken heart is difficult to mend….very thoughtful.

  3. This is beautifully crafted

  4. ‘kneeling in the shattered half-truths’ – what a perfect image/metaphor.

  5. This is brilliant. I love the metaphors too and the double meanings.

  6. Love the imagery, use of language, emotional honesty of the characters. Short piece packs a whallop! Makes me want to know what came before and what’s coming next for these 2.

Found you on Yeah, Write. Looking forward to more!

A bit of a comma problem, BTW.

    Best to you,

    Salluy

    • Thanks so much, Sally. I enjoyed this week’s question. You’re right, I tend to put commas where I want pauses. It’s a bad habit I’m trying to break. Speaking of commas, I’d be a bad editor if I didn’t point out that it’s actually “yeah write,” not “Yeah, Write.” 🙂

  7. You are so good with imagery. Nicely done!
