Lots

It is the first day of November and so, today, someone will die, and by dying, live. Alonso returned last night: a bittersweet reunion. In the Hall of Souls the Headsman waits in silence as we draw lots, each harboring hope and dread in equal measure.

This post was made – from my cell phone while lying supine with a thrown-out back – in response to the Trifecta Writing Challenge weekend Trifextra prompt:

In The Scorpio Races, author Maggie Stiefvater writes, “It is the first day of November and so, today, someone will die.” Give us the next thirty-three words of this story, as you imagine it. Take it wherever you like, but make it original and make it 33 words exactly.
